Breaking the Circle of Poverty

In September, I got a chance to revisit Vu Thi Tran Van, one of the children in our program that we are trying to help escape out of the difficult situations caused by poverty. She and most of the poor and needy children have similar family situations. What makes her one of the most special cases in our program is that she has two disabled brothers because of Agent Orange (AO). It really hurts me to know that Van’s older brother, Hai, a 20-year-old boy who just graduated from IT College in Da Nang was released after several days of working, only because of his disabled physical body. One employee in the company said Hai would be a burden for them; his health is not good (they seemed afraid because of sick leave and health insurance issues).

Hearing the story from his father, I thought he already has a good education now, but still cannot find a job to earn the money and it is so miserable for him. Surely, it would be very hard for him to find another job unless he is lucky and if there is someone or a company who would really have compassion for him.

To me, life is not fair to Van, her brother, her family and even to other poor people. The only thing that he, his family and other needy families are striving to do is to improve their life, oreven a chance to change their life. But maybe life does not meet their very simple wish. I keep asking myself how this family (and others) can escape the circle of poverty. I pray that it will happen one day soon. How can it happen?
